Garden Gate Flower Company is the brainchild of Cheryl Colwell, an artist and long time Ashland resident. With years of gardening behind her and a new six-acre property under her feet, she was looking for something to do with the land. She settled on opening a 'you pick' flower garden.

With a lot of help from her husband, she plotted, fenced, and planted the gardens in 1999. The next year, they added a greenhouse to jumpstart the season by seeding early and transplanting in May. This year, they have done a complete revamp of the area and added additional acreage.
